Across the Barricades is quite unlike most teenage fiction novels.
Of course, we see the usual themes of young love and the inevitable issues that come along with it, but the setting and issues dealt with in the book are the main attributes that set it apart in the meantime. The two fall in love but sadly; timing is not their strong suit.
Across the barricades
Amidst a backdrop of violence and prejudice, Sadie and Kevin just want to be together. The condemnation they experience makes us ponder on the irony that the reason for all this violence boils down to religion. The innocent romance between the two is soon misconceived and they are forced to be apart.
The violence continues. But would this last long enough to save the two of them from further trouble? Will Kevin and Sadie separate themselves for the greater good or realize that their inseparable bond is stronger than the problems they face?
